Post-Tenure Career Engagement

A group of women posing with President Teniente-Matson

Do you remember what it was like to get your first driver’s license, especially as a teenager? The wait seemed to take forever, but once you are licensed, you have multiple decades to enjoy driving. So it is with tenure: here before you know it . . . now where do you want to go with the rest of your faculty career?

In addition to our programs for RSCA, teaching innovation, and faculty learning communities, CFETI is growing its roster of programs to support post-tenure career engagement. These include the Womxn's Leadership Group and the Momentum: Promotion to Full workshop series.

Womxn’s Leadership Group

SJSU’s Womxn’s Leadership Group is for post-tenure faculty who are interested in exploring and have the strong potential for formal leadership roles in the future--whether in their department, college, professional organizations, or beyond. Open to all, the group centers the journey and experiences of womxn, enabling participants to  reconceive “leadership” and network with a community of peers to explore the nuances of leadership for womxn.

Join us for the 2025 Womxn's Leadership Retreat on October 24, 2025 (8:30am to 12:00pm).

Centering the journeys of women leaders in academia, the program includes a panel discussion with academic leaders, a Public Profile, CV, and LinkedIn workshop, as well as a workshop on strategies for effective communication. All are welcome.

what happens next?

To assist tenured associate professors, CFETI is
launching a new faculty development series titled
Momentum: Navigating the Path to Full with
Purpose and Peers.

Participants will explore new ideas, clarify their
scholarly agendas and goals, and discover resources,
techniques and strategies to advance their
professional growth and career trajectory. Just as
importantly, Momentum offers a space to connect with
colleagues at a similar career stage.

The registration for the inaugural 2025/26 Cohort has closed.
