SJSU’s Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC)

Our Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) is a welcoming, peer-driven space for students exploring recovery. We support students who are in recovery, sober-curious, or seeking to reduce their risk around substance use in a respectful, judgment-free environment.

CRC supports the whole student through connection, encouragement, and wellness-based support. This includes using the SMART Recovery Toolbox, an evidence-informed approach to individual and group goal-setting, encouragement, and empowerment to define recovery on their own terms and thrive both on campus and beyond.

Spring 2026 Recovery Meeting Schedule

All Recovery Meeting (In person)

  • Wednesdays 5:15pm-6:15pm (Starting March 4th, 2026)
  • Central Classroom Building (CCB) room 101

Any student looking to explore recovery or what a life without substance use looks like is encouraged to attend our meetings. Students at any stage of recovery and at any point in their academic journeys are welcome.

Spring 2026 Peer Mentor Drop-In Hours

  • Tuesdays 11am-1pm, Wednesdays 2pm-4pm (Starting March 3rd, 2026)
  • SWC Wellness Lounge (SWC 101)

Peer mentor drop-in hours provide students the space to explore recovery, sober-curiosity, or reducing their drug/alcohol use in a one-on-one conversation. The Peer Mentor meets students where they are, offering a nonjudgmental, supportive, goal-oriented space for students to explore recovery with someone who shares similar experiences. Stop by the SWC’s Wellness Lounge during drop-in hours to chat.

Meet our Peer Mentor

Jennifer Celaya at the SJSU Student Wellness Center

Hello, my name is Jennifer Celaya (pronouns: she/her). I am currently studying Social Work at San José State University, and I serve as a Collegiate Recovery Peer Mentor. My journey includes lived experience with recovery, which has shaped both my personal growth and my commitment to supporting others. I believe that sharing even small parts of our stories helps reduce stigma and reminds people they are not alone. In my view, recovery extends beyond personal effort; it is most effective when supported within a community context. Peers play a vital role by offering understanding, encouragement, and accountability. When we come together, we create a safe space where healing, resilience, and hope can flourish.
