Computer Science Certificates in Artificial Intelligence

If you are interested in obtaining a certificate in Artificial Intelligence, follow the steps listed below.

Undergraduate Students

Fundamental AI Algorithms and Applications in Computer Science Certificate

(For students in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Science and Linguistics, Computer Science and Geology)

  1. Take the courses listed in the Fundamental AI catalog.
  2. Take the certificate exit survey during the semester in which you complete all the courses (or after completing all the courses). Capture a screenshot of the survey completion page.
  3. Fill out the Fundamental AI Certificate Request form [pdf] and email it to fundamental-ai-compsci@sjsu.edu (i) the filled form and (ii) the screenshot of the webpage showing completion of the exit survey.

Upon verification by the CS Department, the Registrar's Office will indicate the certificate on your SJSU transcript.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the certificate, students will be able to:

PLO 1:

  • Develop and apply programming skills to design and implement efficient algorithms and data structures, analyzing their complexity and suitability for diverse problem domains.

PLO 2:

  • Demonstrate deep understanding of core AI/ML principles, Apply and evaluate AI/ML techniques for solving a variety of real-world problems.

PLO 3:

  • Analyze large datasets and apply data visualization tools to extract insights and inform decision-making.

PLO 4:

  • Apply AI/ML techniques to specialized problem domains such as computer vision, information security, and social networks, focusing on solution design, implementation, and evaluation.

Graduate Students

AI Core Technologies and Applications Certificate

(For students in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science and Linguistics, Computational Geoscience)

  1. Take the courses listed in the Advanced AI catalog.
  2. Complete the certificate exit survey during the semester you finish the last required course (or after completing all courses). Capture a screenshot of the survey completion page.
  3. Fill out the AI Core Technologies and Applications Certificate Request form [pdf].
  4. Email the completed request form and the screenshot showing survey completion to advanced-ai-core@sjsu.edu.

After verification by Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE), the certificate will be posted to your SJSU transcript. Program Learning Outcomes

  • Design, develop, and evaluate traditional or emerging AI/ML algorithms using advanced techniques, considering accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in applying AI, ML, advanced data processing, or mathematical modeling techniques to real-world challenges in fields such as bioinformatics, healthcare, networks, and security, and database systems.
