Program Outcomes
The San José State University Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) Training Program is approved by the California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services (LFS), and is pursuing initial accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) under the Diagnostic Molecular Scientist (DMS) program standards.
The program publishes available outcome measures to provide prospective and enrolled students with information about program effectiveness. These measures include California CGMBS licensure rates and graduation rates for the three most recent reporting years. Outcome data are reviewed annually as part of the program's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process.
| Outcome Measure | Program Benchmark | 2022–23 | 2023–24 | 2024–25 | Benchmark Met? |
| California CGMBS Licensure Rate | ≥75% | 95% | 100% | 93% | Yes |
| Graduation Rate | ≥70% | 100% | 100% | 87% | Yes |
Reporting Year: July 1 – June 30
The program is working to establish access to verified ASCP Board of Certification Molecular Biology (MB) examination pass-rate data. These results will be published when reliable data become available.
Program Benchmarks
The program evaluates its effectiveness through established benchmark goals. These benchmarks guide the program's continuous quality improvement process:
- California CGMBS Licensure Rate: ≥75%
- Graduation Rate: ≥70%
Outcome Definitions
California CGMBS Licensure Rate
Percentage of program graduates who obtain California Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist licensure through Laboratory Field Services following program completion.
Graduation Rate
Percentage of students who begin the final half of the program and successfully complete all program requirements, including didactic coursework and clinical molecular training.
